On Gratitude Always

{November 22, 2022}

I can’t tell you how grateful I am for your continued eyes and support of this newsletter. It’s been over a year of Twofer Tuesdays and I’ve felt the calling to package it differently. I’m still tinkering around with some ideas, but I just wanted to let you know that some changes are coming.

Reader, I appreciate you more than I can ever fully express with words. I couldn’t do this without you. I’m looking forward to serving you, your mindset, and your growth in the seasons to come.

With that, your twofers this week are on gratitude for EVERYTHING, even the “bad.”

- 2 Ideas from others -

“The thing about life is that you never know when it will show you something that touches you so deeply that you can’t help but be grateful for everything . . . even the bad.

- Claire Contreras
New York Times Bestselling Author of Kaleidoscope Hearts

“To be grateful for the good things that happen in our lives is easy, but to be grateful for all of our lives the good as well as the bad, the moments of joy as well as the moments of sorrow, the successes as well as the failures, the rewards as well as the rejections that requires hard spiritual work."

- Henri Nouwen
Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer and theologian

Two weeks ago I scored a killer washer and dryer set for an insane price that I couldn’t pass up.

I pulled out the old washer and dryer to make room for the new, only to find signs of moisture in the drywall and linoleum. Yay! 🥴

The Realtor in me immediately cringed at the fact that I had linoleum in my house (#ew #uglyretro), and secondly, I knew that moisture leads to mold and mold leads to bad.

What followed was very much an “If you give a mouse a cookie,” kind of scenario.

“Welp, there’s moisture, so I need to cut into the drywall. And if I cut into the drywall, then I might as well rip up the linoleum. And if I rip up the linoleum, then we’ll need to remove the baseboards. And if we remove the baseboards…” sort of thing.

Fast forward to Pumehana’s mental breakdown after cutting into the drywall. Fast forward to Kyle’s (the hubs) mental breakdown after removing the toilet. Fast forward to the handyman ripping out every single wall and saying, “Looks like you have few leaks going on in here.”

“Really?? That’s awesome!” was truly my initial response. Truly.

It was in that moment, that I was extremely grateful for all the seemingly “bad” things that happened. The breakdowns, the overwhelm, all of it. Because guess what? All that nonsense has gotten me closer to the gift of absolutely loving my home.

What about you? As this is the official week of gratitude and “giving thanks,” I encourage you to ask yourself:

  • What struggle or issue left a bad taste in my mouth?

  • What gifts and goodness came of it?

- 2 Affirmations -

  • Everything in life happens FOR me, not TO me.

  • I’m grateful for the gifts that come from pain and struggle.

- 2 Resources -

Dreaming in LunaIf you don’t already know, I’m obsessed with supporting local female-owned small businesses. I met the owner of Dreaming in Luna randomly on a boat here in Oahu. Sabrina’s designs are simply beautiful with a feminine and classy silhouette. I have the Luna Dress in Cafe Au Lait and I’m obsessed. Check it out, see which collection sings to you, and feel free to support local and support female!

MindNode For my creatives out there, what programs do you use when you’re in the “ideation” phase? This is the one I use. MindNode is a pretty and organized way of mind-mapping new ideas. My step one of the ideation phase is always BRAIN DUMP, and MindNode allows me to follow my ideas down their respective rabbit holes and then come right back to square one. Try it and let me know what you think!
