When It Doesn’t Fit Anymore

⏰ Mindset Minute

{February 7, 2023}

Last week Thursday, my coach said something that I couldn’t stop thinking about and I’ve been dying to share it with you.

But first a little context…

Spring of 2022 I decided it was time to separate from a group of friends/colleagues that I had been super tight with for upwards of 5 years.

We were so close, in fact, that I felt like I owed most of my recent accomplishments, career, and success to this group.

It wasn’t easy, nor was it the most cordial of “breakups.”

But it was no less necessary, and I have no guilt or regret.

Cut to last Thursday. It’s been almost a year, and I’m still trying to let them go in my head and in my heart.

I told my coach this:

“I’m struggling with letting them go for good without trying to demonize or antagonize them.”

You see, I knew in my heart that there’s no good guy or bad guy in the story. But it felt like in order for me to truly move forward, I needed to tell myself the story that I’m the hero and they were the villain.

Here’s what my coach said:

“Pumehana, they’re not a fit anymore. Just like 10 years ago you wore size 2 jeans and now you wear a 5. The jeans aren’t bad. It’s no one’s fault. They just don’t fit in your life anymore.”

🤯 🤯 🤯

It was so simple, yet so profound.

How many pieces of clothing did we feel damn good in, but just don’t fit anymore?

How many relationships have fallen off because the both of you changed and were entirely different people with different goals and values?

Much like Marie Kondo’s “Spark Joy” method, what can we say, “Thank you,” to for bringing us joy and then LET THEM GO?

What in your life is no longer a fit?

Subscriber First Name, if you’ve never had a coach, this is what they do.

They offer perspective shifts and reframes of your challenges and help you move forward.

They listen to the stories that you tell yourself and help you write a new one so that you can move forward.

If you don’t have someone like that in your life, I highly suggest you start interviewing people NOW.
