On Stocking Your Toolbox
{June 28, 2022}
I’ve taken a 2 week hiatus and it’s been wild.
Since you last heard from me, I’ve hit some highs and some crazy lows.
My girls and I got Covid after coming back from our Kauai trip, and that was a huge, eye-opening mental challenge for me. The crazy thing was that it was the aftermath of being sick that was worse than the sickness.
For those of you who haven’t had the “pleasure” of a visit from Ms. Rona, here’s a little context: it was basically like having a ridiculous flu— 104° fever, chills, major body aches, loss of appetite, no energy, restless legs, headaches, and just all around not sleeping well.
But it was the 8-10 days that were so interesting. I had the craziest brain fog and extremely low energy. Like, I felt like I had nothing in my brain and all I wanted to do was sleep.
And let me tell you, those things coupled together will take a major TOLL on your mindset. Like, the imposter syndrome hit HARD.
But, in true “Mindset Coach” fashion, I questioned what I was questioning and pulled a lesson out of it.
And thus, my biggest takeaway is this…
STOCK 👏 YOUR 👏 TOOLBOX 👏
There will be times when life hits you hard, and keeps hitting you, and it just won’t let up. But when you have your toolbox stocked with the things that help you climb up from your proverbial pits of despair, you’ll move through the darkness a lot faster.
Here were my 3 go-to’s these last few weeks:
Journaling
Whenever I need to get out of my head, I literally get everything out of my head and onto paper. I write it all down with tears and snot dripping down onto the page (gross, I know).
But there’s an interesting shift that happens once you give voice to the voices that you normally suppress. They start to quiet down, and there’s a still, small voice of love and reason that comes through.EFT/Tapping
Emotional Freedom Technique has been a saving grace for me. If you’re not familiar with it, check out this video by Jennifer Partridge to learn more.
Tapping through whatever it is that I’m struggling with allows me to, again, give voice to my suffering and then move on.People
Straight up, I’m an extrovert. I’ve had to do some work around that because there was a tiny bit of shame that came with the fact that I like being around other people. I have so many friends who are introverts and I felt, almost, wrong for being different.
But we are a species of community. It isn’t healthy for us to be separated from the outside world. Yes, we have our immediate family, but it’s just not the same as looking into the eyes of and connecting with a close friend who just gets you.
If you are reading this, that means you’ve endured my rambling and I confidently dub thee a GEM 💎 of a human.
Also, I’m so stoked to say that next week we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming of our Twofer Tuesday Newsletter and it’s going to be fire!
As we continue to move through the theme of “Change = Awareness + Reflection + Action” next week begins our season of Reflection.
I hope this served you, my love. If you feel so moved, I invite you to share some of your tools in your personal growth toolbox. I’m always looking for more!
